Conversations - Calgary’s First Carless Condo
CNRC had a chance to discuss Calgary’s first carless condo project with the realtor who sold all 125+ units.
The Ivory is a trailblazer in Austin and in the United States. There are very few carless condominium projects to look at as an example outside one in Seattle, San Francisco and New York. One of the most successful projects that did not have any parking spaces is in North America but north of the US border in Calgary, Canada.
The N3 Condo near downtown Calgary was tremendously successful in terms of sales and carless ownership. The buzz about the project increased the rapidity of sales once the marketing team opened the window for sales N3 Calgary's first carless condo 90% soldout - YYCNOW
CNRC had a chance to speak with members of the N3 Condo project and found out that nearly 70 percent of owners relinquished their cars and many of the remaining car owners placed them in a nearby long-term parking lot. N3 also provided a bicycle for every owner and used a car-share program, similar to what The Ivory will employ.
They touted the need to have multimodal options for transit, but thought The Ivory was also set up for success based on the similar programs the two projects have in place.
